Even if this recording had not won a 2004 Latin Grammy, it would still certainly be considered a magnificent production of Mario Adnet and Paulo Jobim. Using the original arrangements created by Claus Ogerman, Tom Jobim, Eumir Deodato, Nelson Riddle, Dori Caymmi, Paulo Jobim and Mario Adnet himself, Jobim's music presented here is superb. Special guests invited to perform in this recording were Milton Nascimento, Maúcha Adnet and Muíza Adnet. In addition to the sumptuous Orquestra Sinfônica do Estado de São Paulo (OSESP), under Roberto Minczuk's direction, the band who performed with Mario Adnet (acoustic guitar, voice) was comprised of Marcos Nimrichter (piano), Duduka da Fonseca (drums, percussion), Zeca Assumpção (acoustic bass), Paulo Jobim (acoustic guitar, voice) with special guests Benjamin Taubkin (piano), Teco Cardoso (flutes, tenor sax), Nailor Proveta (clarinet, alto sax), Paulo Guimarães (flutes, tenor sax) and Léa Freire (flutes). With such talented artists, Jobim Sinfônico leaves no room for disappointments.

Orquestra Sinfônica do Estado de São PauloThe DVD presents the same song listing as the CD (Biscoito Fino BF 547) but in a different order. It is my inclination to believe the order in the DVD is probably actual concert footage. In addition to the full-length concert, the DVD also includes a special bonus feature of the making of Jobim Sinfônico (time: 24'18"), featuring a few interviews with Paulo Jobim and others. For that special feature, there are optional subtitles in English or Spanish. The audio for the DVD is available in Dolby 5.1 and DTS 5.1. Although nothing negative can be said of the music and performers, the DVD does have a few very minor technical problems, which in no way prevent the listener from fully enjoying this magnificent work. On some occasions, the cameras are not quite in focus, probably due to reflections from the brass section.

This release is definitely a must-have for any Jobim or Adnet fan. It presents Jobim in a different light and covers the broad range of his work, from popular to erudite, including his successful ventures into motion picture soundtracks. The listener wins whether buying the CD or the DVD. I personally prefer the added bonus of the visual impact that seeing the performers can create. In the case of Jobim Sinfônico, seeing the joy of these performers is a rare joy.

Nikki Yanofsky - Live In Montreal, Canada 6 - 29 - 2010

5.0 out of 5 stars supreme talent, June 29, 2010
By  Randian "Tom"
This review is from: Nikki Live in Montreal (DVD) amazon.com

Nikki Yanofsky is an awesomely gifted singer regardless of age. The fact that she is only sixteen at present is mind boggling. She is already a seasoned performer and appears capable of any style of music. First of all she is a real jazz singer that can do Ella Fitzgerald type vocals and can do pop tunes and soul tunes and whatever she chooses to do as she has an amazing voice and vocal technique and is incredibly versatile. She mixes genres although jazz and Ella Fitzgerald's vocals are her first love. She should appeal to fans of jazz and pop and soul as she is awesome at many types of music. She is extremely intelligent for her age of sixteen and is very confident on stage. She is very charming and pretty also which doesn't hurt. Technically gifted beyond even some great and much older established female singers in jazz and pop the sky seems to be the limit for her.Considering that as she gets older she will have had even more experience and her voice will mature into a deeper range is exciting to ponder as she is so awesome already. She is richly deserving of huge success already and although she is a prodigy she shouldn't be considered special just because of her young age but extra special as a singer of any age. It is difficult to think of a female singer that is her equal in so many genres all at the same time.An amazing and spectacular talent for sure.Do yourself a favor and buy her dvds and cds and discover her for yourself ahead of the rest of the world.

Bacharach, the king of relaxed, suave melodies that have quietly assumed a sentimental position in our lives, is celebrated here by a handful of performers who paid him tribute during the inaugural episode of TNT's Master Series. Sheryl Crow throws in the torch for a sultry "One Less Bell to Answer." Chrissie Hynde breaks past her leather-jacket toughness for a tender read of "Baby It's You" and "Message to Michael." Elvis Costello expertly performs his collaboration with Bacharach, the Grammy-awarded "God Give Me Strength" (from the Grace of My Heart soundtrack). Mike Myers camps up "What's New Pussycat?" But none can top the real thing. Dionne Warwick brings us back to the late '60s of Bacharach's prime with a riveting medley of "Walk On By/Say a Little Prayer/Do You Know the Way to San Jose." That and Bacharach's lush arranging skills make the title true to its word.

The songwriting great, Burt Bacharach, is celebrated here by an illustrious group of performers who paid tribute to him during the inaugural episode of TNT's Master Series. Features performances from Cheryl Crow, All Saints, Elvis Costello, Chrissie Hynde, Mike Myers, Wynona, Ben Folds Five, Barenaked Ladies, Luther Vandross, David Sanborn and George Duke, Dionne Warwick and Bacharach himself. 2007.

Dee Dee Bridgewater - J'ai Deux Amours Tour 2005 - Live in Antibes,Juan-Les-Pins, France

Dee Dee Bridgewater (born May 27, 1950) is an American Jazz singer. She is a two-time Grammy Award winning singer-songwriter, as well as a Tony Award - winning stage actress and host of National Public Radio's syndicated radio show JazzSet with Dee Dee Bridgewater. She is a United Nations Ambassador for the Food and Agriculture Organization.

Bridgewater is the first American to be inducted to the Haut Conseil de la Francophonie. She has received the Award of Arts and Letters in France. She also won the 1975 Tony Award for Best Featured Actress in a Musical for her performance in The Wiz.

Dee Dee Bridgewater is named as one of the top singers in both critics' and readers' Down Beat polls. Considering that she was a French denizen for some time (nearly 20 years). This DVD album is fabulous, and is one of the best concerts of DeeDee Bridgeater. I love this concert!

This DVD concert is sung primarily in French, although on a few standards, Ms. Bridgewater sang some songs in english. What makes this dvd so special, is the flexibility in Ms. Bridgewater's approach. She sings "J'ai Duex Amours" seductively,  "My Man" with a strong calypso beat; and "Girl Talk" as a strong, shouting funk. Then she does "La Belle Vie", starting with breathless seduction and morphing into strong, solid cabaret-style lines. My favorite is her unique take on "La Vie en Rose." The featured accordion playing, thus adding  the European flavor of the standards.

Steely Dan - Live at Verizon Wireless Amphitheater - Dec. 08 , 2006 Charlotte, New York City, U.S.A, Featuring Michael McDonald

Steely Dan is an American band built around two core members, Walter Becker and Donald Fagen. The band's music is characterized by complex jazz-influenced structures and harmonies.Becker and Fagen are well known for their near-obsessive perfectionism in the recording studio, which is one of the reasons why Steely Dan has reached cult-status with discerning music fans worldwide. The band has sold over 30 million records to date, been inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, and still performs with passion.

In the last few songs of the concert - Michael Mcdonald was introduced by Walter Becker. Concert went on up to the last song titled "FM". The crowd shouted "more"!  Their final song was "My old School"  If you really dig Steely Dan's music. This one is a knocker!
